Where you look for work, while work looks for you.
When done with care and caution, home improvement and remodeling projects add value to your home. But if have ever been involved in such a project, I'm sure you would agree that it is indeed challenging. The most important part of the job is to find a contractor who can carry on with the job seamlessly and efficiently.
Whether you hire a contractor for exterior painting or whether you get them for kitchen and bathroom remodeling, there are some rules you need to bear in mind before you get your project worked upon.
Get written guarantees from your contractor
You should not trust a contractor who gives you unbelievably long guarantees such as more than five years. Get the guarantee in writing
The guarantee should clearly state items covered under guarantee, the party who will be responsible for the guarantee and what will be taken care of beyond the guarantee. Sometimes a contractor might say that a system comes with a guarantee for its lifetime. He might mean that should any manufacturing faults arise; the manufacturer will take care of them.
A labor warranty will ensure that should there be any faults in the workmanship, your contractor should take care of it without any expense. The guarantee should be for at least a year from the date of completion.
Businesses that outsource work to contractors need to have a solid understanding of contractor compliance requirements and issues as part of their broader contractor management activities. Too often, contractor compliance can seem confusing or too difficult and time consuming to chase up...and so it is left. No business wants to use contractors that have not met their obligations or have failed to keep these up to date and so it follows that compliance checks and verification should always occur.
Contractor management and contractor compliance need not be perceived as something that belongs in the too hard basket for businesses.
